The competitive action on the European Tour continues this weekend, as the Omega European Masters will be staged in Switzerland. This event was the first in Europe to be co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, and it remains as prominent as ever on the Tour in this modern day.
Before Betting On Omega European Masters
The Omega European Masters has been staged on the European Tour since its introduction in 1923. Since 2009, it has been co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, becoming the first in Europe to sanctioned by the tour in the process. Players have competed at this event at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club since 1939, and it has always been played in early September.
The stroke play event boasts a lucrative purse of $2.5 million, with the field competing for their share of the purse over a distance of 6,824 yards. Colin Montgomerie holds the aggregate record in the competition, finishing with a score of 260 in 1996. Meanwhile, the par record was set by Jerry Anderson in 1984.
Top players on the tour have previously won the Omega European Masters, and there is a strong feel to the top of the betting this weekend. Former major champion Matt Fitzpatrick will be among the leading hopes, as he looks to improve on his finish in a tie for 28th at the BMW Championship at the end of August. He previously landed back-to-back wins in the event in 2017 and 2018.
Matt Wallace is one of a number of players with previous experience at the course, as the Englishman finished in a close second behind Thriston Lawrence in 2022. Rasmus Hojgaard could also be hard to rule out this weekend after previously winning the event by a one-shot margin in 2021.
