Manchester United and France midfielder Paul Pogba has suffered another injury setback and now looks unlikely to play any part for the Red Devils until at least January.
Manchester United haven’t had their influential French midfielder since September’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford. The setback means that the Red Devils will be without Pogba for their upcoming clashes with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
There was hope that Pogba was going to be fit for the upcoming Manchester derby, while he would have surely loved to have taken the field against Jose Mourinho’s Spurs after the pair endured a turbulent relationship during the Portuguese’s reign at Old Trafford.
Pogba Unlikely To Feature Again in 2019
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shared the news with the press in his recent press conference ahead of the club’s upcoming fixture against Sheffield United on Sunday at Bramall Lane.
Pogba has been spending his time away from the club in Dubai. He wasn’t the only United player to be spending their time during the international break in the warmer climate as both Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic were also there.
However, both of the other United stars returned to training on Friday. But neither of the mentioned players are likely to play any part in United’s game on Sunday.
Speaking at the press conference, Solskjaer admitted that the injury that Pogba picked up has not ‘healed yet’, but he did add that ‘he doesn’t need to have the cast on.’
Pogba Fueling Fans Anger
During the recent international break, the French World Cup winner did anger some United fans as he posted a video on Instagram. In the video, he can be seen moving freely on his injured leg as he plays basketball in Miami.
The video caused anger among fans as he looked to be fine, and viewers questioned whether the injury was really as serious as Pogba was making out.
The relationship between Pogba and the United fans has been a strained one since the former Juventus midfielder arrived back at Old Trafford.
Pogba was seen arguing with fans at the end of their clash with Cardiff City on the last day of the 2018-19 season. He does get a lot of the blame when things aren’t going the club’s way, but so far this season he has delivered when he has taken to the field for United.
In his five appearances this season, he has already made three assists; with two of those coming in United’s opening day 4-0 success over Chelsea. The Red Devils certainly miss his creativity when he isn’t playing, but over recent weeks the dynamic between Scott McTominay, Fred and Andreas Perriera has worked for Solskjaer.
However, United will also be without McTominay for their clash against Sheffield United on Sunday, which means that there could be a first start for a number of months for Jesse Lingard. It will be a big afternoon for Lingard, as he hasn’t scored or assisted a goal since Solskjaer’s first game in charge back in December last year.
