Before Betting On PGA Championship

The second major of the golf season will take place this weekend, as the PGA Championship is competed at Valhalla Golf Club. This event has been staged annually since 1916, and the field will be competing for their share of the $20 million purse. It is one of the most difficult majors to win, with a key reason for this down to the fact that it is staged at a different course annually.

Brooks Koepka has an excellent record in this major, setting the aggregate record when claiming victory in 2018. However, the par record was set by Jason Day in 2015 when he finished 20-under. Koepka also comes into the major as the reigning champion after landing success by two shots at Oak Hill last year.

Rory McIlroy’s long wait for a major success could come to an end this weekend, as the star comes into the weekend on the back of his excellent success at the Wells Fargo Championship last weekend. McIlroy finished 17-under, and that form makes him the one to beat. It only furthers his case that he was the winner of the PGA Championship when it was last staged at Valhalla.

Xander Schauffele also brings excellent recent form into the event this weekend after finishing strongly at the Wells Fargo Championship last weekend. Jon Rahm has also been consistent in majors across recent years, and could be good value to bounce back from his no-show at last month’s Masters.

McIlroy will be our main win bet this weekend, as his recent form bodes well for his chances of ending his major drought. At the prices, Max Homa could be one of the sleeper picks after being consistent on the PGA Tour so far this term.
