Best Finishing Position Odds
This best finishing position market is effectively a ‘without Mystik Dan’ market, as the next three in the betting will go head-to-head-to-head. Tuscan Gold arrives to Pimlico in solid form for trainer Chad Brown, and he will be a strong rival to the runners that competed in the Derby.
However, Catching Freedom has looked sharp throughout his workouts, and he is our main win play, as he will get a better ride in a smaller field.
This market is slightly more interesting, as all three runners could have an interesting outside chance in the race this weekend. Uncle Heavy is the hardest to make a case for, as he has been below the standard required in a Triple Crown race throughout the season, but Irad Ortiz is an eye-catching booking.
Seize The Grey arrives at Pimlico after an excellent success in the G2 Pat Day Mile, but Just Steel could be the value to bounce back to form. He has already finished ahead of Mystik Dan this season, before finishing 17th in the Derby earlier this month.
Winning Margin
We expect this to be a fiercely competitive renewal of the Preakness Stakes this weekend, with very little separating the top four in the market.
Just Steel has finished ahead of Mystik Dan already this season, while the Derby winner had Catching Freedom ahead in an earlier prep. Therefore, under 1.5 lengths being the winning margin could be the preferred play on Saturday.
