Reds Looking To Move Top Of Standings
Liverpool will have the opportunity to move to the top of the Premier League standings on Tuesday evening. Very few would have suggested that the Reds had much of a chance of winning the Premier League back in December, as they were over ten points behind Manchester City. However, a long sequence of victories means that they now sit just a single point behind the current champions.
Liverpool have lost fewer games than any other side in the league this season, having suffered just two defeats. They also have the best attacking record, and second-best defensive record. The Reds have picked up more points than any other side since their defeat against Leicester in December, picking up 32 and dropping to just two draws. At least a point will take Liverpool top, which would be the first time that they have held that spot since October.
United Still Chasing Top Four
It isn’t just a big game for Liverpool at Anfield, as Manchester United’s hopes of finishing in the Champions League places have increased following the disappointing results recorded by Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in recent weeks. United are still outsiders to achieve that top four finish, but a victory at Anfield would put them level on points with Spurs at this late stage of the season.
However, away victories for United at Anfield have been very rare in recent seasons. The Red Devils are winless on their previous five trips to Liverpool, picking up just three points. Furthermore, United have scored just one goal during that period. United’s strength on the road has also been hampered in recent weeks, as they have lost their previous two. That is more defeats on the road than United suffered in their previous 39 games before that.

Liverpool will be looking to complete the league double over United for the first time since the 2013-14 season. They will also be looking to win three straight games against United for the first time in over ten years. Liverpool were handsome 5-0 winners in the first meeting between the sides at Old Trafford.

It looks a tall order for United to take anything away from this game given the performances that we have seen from the Red Devils in recent months. It could be another big defeat against their fierce rivals, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Liverpool win with over 3.5 goals being scored.
