It was business as usual for Pep Guardiola’s Man City, as the champions opened the campaign with a professional display at Stamford Bridge on matchday one. Erling Haaland opened the scoring for the reigning champions inside the opening half of action, before the points were secured in London following Mateo Kovacic’s effort against his former side.
City have now recorded victories in 13 of their last 14 opening day fixtures, with the only exception coming against Tottenham in 2021. Life back in the Premier League has already been a testing start for Ipswich Town, as they were put to the sword by a clinical Liverpool in their opening round of matches on matchday one.
