Manchester City vs Arsenal Preview
Gunners In Trouble
Mikel Arteta can feel the weight of expectation on his shoulders at the start of this season, and the pressure is already mounting. According to reports, the manager has until the second international break to save his job. The Gunners couldn’t have got off to a worse start this season, as they have lost both games that they have played to this point. Arsenal lost their opening match of the new season 2-0 against Brentford, before being easily beaten by the same scoreline in their most recent fixture against Chelsea this past weekend.
Fans have grew tired of the performances as much as the results, as there are serious questions about the style that the Gunners have adapted under Arteta. They no longer look to be the possession-based side that ruled England under Arsene Wenger, while they also don’t break at any speed to be a counter-attacking side. Meanwhile, they need to improve defensively to stand any chance of climbing up the league table.
City Claim First Win Of New Season
Manchester City ended their wait for a first competitive win of the new season at the weekend, as they beat Norwich City 5-0 at the Etihad. It ended a run of three straight 1-0 defeats in competitive fixtures, which started at the end of last season in the Champions League final against Chelsea. That was followed with a 1-0 defeat in the Community Shield against Leicester City, before going down to the same scoreline against Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League opener.
However, as good as City were against Norwich, the Canaries made life very easy for Pep Guardiola’s side. City were ahead 2-0 at the break after an own goal by Tim Krul, while £100-million man Jack Grealish scored his first goal in City blue. Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez added further goals in the second half to ease to victory.
Recent Meetings
The recent meetings between the sides doesn’t make for happy reading for Arsenal. They haven’t beaten City in the Premier League since December 2015. City have won the last eight in the league, which includes the two 1-0 wins that they picked up last season.
Manchester City vs Arsenal Prediction
This could be a very tricky fixture on the road for the Gunners this weekend. It would be hard to see past another dominant win for City in this fixture, and it could be a humbling day for Arteta’s side. Over 3.5 goals could be a good bet, with City claiming a 3-1 win.
