City Looking To Extend Record

Manchester City have already beaten the record for most consecutive domestic wins in England following their FA Cup success over Swansea in midweek. The victory over the Championship side means that Pep Guardiola’s side are still fighting on all four fronts as the season reaches a pivotal stage. City remain in all three domestic competitions, as they looks to repeat the feat that they achieved a couple of years ago by completing the domestic treble.

It was straightforward for City against the Swans, as they raced into a 3-0 lead after goals from Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker. Guardiola’s side look to be in a strong position for the Premier League title this season, as they already hold a five-point advantage over Manchester United with a game in hand. They could stretch that advantage to eight points before United even take to the field again in the Premier League.

Mourinho Scathing Of Defence

Jose Mourinho was left fuming in midweek, as he watched on as his side conceded five in a pulsating cup tie against Everton. To make matters worse for Spurs, they also needed to play an extra period at Goodison Park, which would not have been ideal for their fitness levels. Spurs came back from 3-1 down to level the scores, before Harry Kane scored in the final ten minutes to ensure that extra time was needed to separate the sides after a 4-4 draw. However, it was Everton that went on to win the cup tie, as Bernard scored the match winning goal in the seventh minute of the extra period.

Mourinho was frustrated with his side’s defensive performance in the game, and could make a number of changes for the game this weekend at the Etihad. Spurs and City will meet later in the season in the EFL Cup final, but before then Mourinho will be keen for his side to qualify for the Champions League. On current form, there seems to be a slim chance of that happening, as they trail fourth-placed Liverpool by four points.

Spurs Have Decent Recent Record Against City

Spurs will at least come into the game with some layer of confidence, as they have won the last two meetings against City 2-0. They also picked up a 2-2 draw the last time that the sides met at the Etihad. However, they haven’t won away from home against City since 2016.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur Pick

Manchester City should be far too strong for Spurs on Saturday evening. Tottenham’s defensive performance against Everton will be hugely worrying, and despite the returning Harry Kane, they won’t be able to take anything away from the Etihad.
