United Hoping To Build On Strong Performances
United’s form has certainly improved since their last outing at Old Trafford. On that occasion, it was a pretty forgettable day for the club as they were hammered 6-1 by Tottenham Hotspur. The international break seems to have come at the best possible time for United, as they were able to re-group. Since returning, United have won both games that they have played.
Both of the wins were completely different performances, with United’s last league win against Newcastle United being one where they needed to dominate possession and take their chances when they came. However, United’s best performance of the season came in a counter-attacking masterstroke against PSG in their Champions League opener this past week. United never looked in danger of losing against last seasons finalists, and deservedly claimed another famous win in Paris after goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
Chelsea Looking To Improve
There was a lot of talk surrounding Chelsea at the beginning of the season, as they spent big with the additions of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. However, the questions have persisted throughout this season regarding whether they are good enough defensively to really challenge for major prizes. Some of those questions were answered in their last Premier League game, as Chelsea twice gave away leads to draw 3-3 with Southampton.
However, it was a much improved performance in their last match against Sevilla. Eduard Mendy and Thiago Silva returned to the team for that match, and the Blues were held to a goalless draw. Chelsea looked more secure at the back in that match, and both men will likely start this coming weekend. However, it will be a very different challenge at Old Trafford, as the United forward line will be looking to get behind the Chelsea back four.

For a long time, Chelsea boasted an impressive record against United, but that has changed over recent seasons. The Blues haven’t beaten United in the league since 2017, with United winning three of the past five.
