Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira clash in the fight for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title. The first was the champion in the past, but due to his injury he had to vacate the throne. Pereira is the guy who moved up from the middleweight (where he held the belt briefly) and now aims to take over the new division.
Before Betting on Prochazka vs. Pereira
Prochazka was planned to have a rematch with Glover Teixeira, against whom he won the title, but the shoulder injury prevented the Czech from facing Pereira’s mentor. The Samurai was the champion in the Rizin promotion, and after coming to the UFC beat Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes before winning the title against Glover.
So far, we’ve seen him win 29 times, with three losses, knocking out the rival on 25 occasions. Even though he has a very versatile and creative striking arsenal, Prochazka isn’t focusing on plain force like some other fighters. His technique is refined, and when you see him in the octagon, he doesn’t look so raw.
Pereira’s nickname is Poatan, meaning, Hands of Stone. And that pretty much tells everything about this fella. Though not only does he possess heavy hands, but strong leg kicks as well. Don’t forget, this guy was a kickboxing superstar before entering UFC.
After beating Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya, Pereira became a champion, but after that, he lost that title against Izzy in a rematch. Following these contests, the Brazilian moved up to the light heavyweight division, where he edged out the former champion, Jan Blachowicz, defeating the Pole via split decision.

The thing here is that we don’t believe that Prochazka recovered properly following his injury in terms of removing the ring rust. He was away for almost 18 months, and that’s enough. On the other side, we have Pereira, who gained experience and improved his MMA skills during that span. Therefore, we are all in for Poatan.
