Tampa Bay can’t keep this up all season…can they? The Rays don’t appear to have a lot of weaknesses as they’ve become the third team in the last 120+ years to start the season 13-0. The 1982 Braves and the 1987 Brewers both tripped up in game 14, and the Blue Jays (8-5) hope to play spoiler and stop the Rays’ streak in its tracks.

Before Betting on Rays vs Blue Jays

There are numerous things that have made Tampa Bay so good so far – they not only have the #1 offense in MLB but also the top team ERA (2.25). The Rays’ 1-0 win over the Red Sox on Monday was the first time this season they hadn’t won by at least 4 runs, and even in Thursday’s 9-3 victory over Boston on Thursday Tampa Bay was down 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 5th.

Tampa Bay’s offense is dialed in up and down the lineup with 8 players hitting .300 or better a couple weeks into the 2023 season. Jose Berrios (0-2, 11.17 ERA) doesn’t get the best matchup to break out of his early season slump, as the Toronto starter has allowed 12 ER over his first 9.2 IP of the season. Berrios was 1-1 with a 6.08 ERA in three starts vs Tampa Bay last season.

Drew Rasmussen (2-0, 0.00 ERA) has yet to allow a run in the first 13.0 innings he’s pitched, but he’s also faced the Nationals and A’s. Rasmussen has had success against some of Toronto’s bigger hitters, holding Matt Chapman to 1-10, George Springer to 1-10, and Bo Bichette to 3-17 as the team has a collective .225 average against the Rays starter.

Rays vs Blue Jays Prediction & Pick

It would take some guts to call Toronto the play to end the Rays streak, and to be fair Tampa Bay has played 10 games at home during their 13 wins in a row. That being said, this is a really good Rays squad with a lot of momentum and a big edge in the pitching matchup.

Pick: Rays -1.5
