Offshore oddsmakers are expecting a pitcher’s duel on Saturday night as the Red Sox and Padres continue their weekend series at Petco Park. The low 7.5 total comes with good reason as Boston’s Chris Sale (3-2, 5.40 ERA) has struck out 19 in his last two starts while San Diego’s Joe Musgrove (1-1, 6.63 ERA) has struggled at times this year but also had a 2.86 ERA at home in 2022.

Before Betting on Red Sox vs Padres

Boston took the series opener 6-1 for their third straight win, with the Sox offense averaging 9.0 runs/game over that span. Rafael Devers led the way with 2 HRs and 4 RBI, the fourth time he’s had multiple hits in the last five games. San Diego’s loss was their third straight, and their eighth in the last nine.

Sale is coming off a gem vs. St. Louis, going 8.0 IP while striking out 9 and allowing just 3 hits in what ended up actually being a 4-3 Red Sox loss as Kenley Jansen blew a save for the second straight day. Sale K’d 10 the start prior against the Phillies, so he’s in the zone right now.

Musgrove allowed 4+ ER for the second time in his last three starts, and his 19 K’s on the season is what Sale has posted in the last two games. Saturday’s game will be the first time the right-hander hasn’t faced an NL West opponent in his fifth start of the season, so far failing to complete the 6th inning in any of his four starts.

Red Sox vs Padres Prediction & Pick

Have to go Red Sox here. The price is right and San Diego is in a real rut right now as they are 2-8 over their last 10. Musgrove has struggled while Sale looks dialed in in his last two starts.
