A match between Sheffield United and Manchester United surely met all the expectations. The contest at Bramall Lane concluded with draw, 3-3, showcasing what is English Premier League all about.
Sheffield’s Early Domination
The Red Devils were down 2-0, managed to turn the result upside down. Yet the hosts hit back in the last moments of the game, to win one point.
United opened the game slowly, and it was obvious that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s boys are not in the mood for playing. The Blades’ players were winning all the battles at the midfield and were pretty fired up.
That brought them a lead after 19 minutes of play and John Fleck’s goal. He ran onto one deflection and luckily placed the ball behind De Gea’s back. The Spanish goalkeeper prevented a much worse result at the halftime, denying several goal attempts of the home team.
But he couldn’t do anything in the 52nd minute. Lys Mousset used Fleck’s assist and sent a perfect shot from some 22 yards. The fans became a bit comfortable and started mocking the guests, who silenced them 25 minutes later.
Manchester’s Blitz
It was Brandon Williams who cut it to 2-1 in the 72nd minute. It was his first-ever score for the Red Devils, and five minutes later, Mason Greenwood, another guy from the Manchester United’s academy leveled the score. For the first time after 14 years, two teenagers score goals for the club from Old Trafford. The home team was knocked out in the 79th minute, when Marcus Rashford delivered the third goal for his team.
In those moments, the only noise at Bramall Lane was made by Manchester United fans. However, Sheffield’s players managed to make this game probably the best in the Premiership this season. It was the last minute of the regulations when Oli McBurnie netted for a tie.
The Blades are still above the Red Devils in the standings and are sitting in the 6th position. At the moment, the newbies from the Championship have 18 points in 13 matches. Their next game will be a tough one as they travel to Wolverhampton.
Solskjaer Under Pressure
Meanwhile, Solskjaer’s guys are 9th with one point fewer. United heads for Kazakhstan to face Astana, and after that plays at home against Aston Villa.
For sure, this is not a good result for the guests. They were aiming to take all three points and get closer to the fourth place, which leads to the Champions League. At the moment, Man Utd is nine points away from Chelsea, who suffered a loss to Man City yesterday. A win against Villa is a must for Solskjaer, not only because of the UCL race, but also due to the safety of his job.
With Mauricio Pochettino free, the rumors about the Argentinian’s arrival at Trafford are getting louder and louder. Let us remind you that even while he led the Spurs, Manchester’s management was aiming to lure him.
The last match of this round will be played tomorrow night in Birmingham, where Aston Villa hosts Newcastle United
