The inaugural UFL season is underway following the XFL-USFL merger. This Week 3 game features a clash between the Houston Roughnecks (0-2) and the Michigan Panthers (1-1). The Panthers are a 2-point favorite at home in this matchup.

Before Betting on Roughnecks vs Panthers

The Roughnecks have had a rough start to the season. After only scoring 12 points at home in their opening week loss to Memphis, they came up short once again, losing 23-18 to the Defenders in Week 2. Houston has had the UFL’s worst offense so far, and needs to improve quickly. On the other hand, their defense has been pretty solid, albeit far from perfect.

QB Reid Sinnett did a solid job after taking over for a struggling Jarrett Guarantano. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, he got little support from the run game, which continued to be inefficient. The Roughnecks need one of their offensive playmakers to make a major impact in this game or they could be staring 0-3 in the face.

Michigan was unable to hold off the Stallions at home in Week 2, falling to 1-1 on the season. It was a concerning offensive performance, with the Panthers scoring just 13 points. While QB E.J. Perry didn’t necessarily play poorly, the coaching plan of 34 passes to 14 rushes has to be brought into question. Michigan never trailed by more than one score, making all those passes unnessecary.

The Panthers and E.J. Perry have a key opportunity to bounce back against the 0-2 Roughnecks. A win would help them avoid dropping into a share of last place in the USFL conference of the UFL. Head coach Mike Nolan will be tasked with coming up with an evolved game plan this week that takes some of the pressure off of Perry and the passing game.

Panthers win-150-2.0

Both of these teams are in need of a win to avoid a detrimental start to the season. Neither has an offense that inspires confidence, but Michigan does have the advantage of being at home in this game. Coupled with their experience from winning in Week 1, and the Panthers should be able to get past a Roughnecks team that is likely to drop to 0-3 after this one.
