One of the most exciting golf events on the calendar takes place this weekend, as the 2023 edition of the Ryder Cup takes place at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club on the outskirts of Rome. Team USA are the reigning champions, but they haven’t won on European soil since 1993.

Before Betting On Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup is one of the standout sporting events on the calendar, and that will be no different this year. Team USA comes into the event as the defending champions after winning the 2021 edition by a dominant 19-9 scoreline. That was only their second win in six editions of the event, and they are winless on European soil since 1993.

Europe will be hoping for a renewed effort this year, but they have comfortably landed victory on home soil in every edition since their previous defeat at The Belfry. Action at the Ryder Cup gets underway on Friday, before all players involved will be in singles action on the final day of play.

Jon Rahm was Europe’s highest point scorer in 2021, as he won 3.5 points from a possible five available. He and Rory McIlroy will be the key players if Europe are to regain the Ryder Cup this year. The USA has plenty of Ryder Cup experience, and their chances are certainly boosted by the fact that all but one of their team have won 50% of their matches at the competition.

It’s likely that the rookies involved this year could prove to be the difference makers at the Ryder Cup. Team Europe hand first Ryder Cup appearances to Robert MacIntyre, Sepp Straka, and Ludvig Aberg. Meanwhile, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, and Sam Burns will all be making their debut in the event for the American team.

America’s record on European soil could be one of the biggest trends to consider at the Ryder Cup this year. Therefore, we will be siding with Europe to land victory in Rome.
