The New Orleans Saints visit the Carolina Panthers in Week 9. Our Saints vs Panthers prediction is for New Orleans to win by more than 7 points.

After a fast start to the season, New Orleans (2-6) has lost six straight. They get quarterback Derek Carr back after he missed three games with an injured oblique.

Carolina (1-7) is in the middle of another dreadful season with a looming decision on what to do with 2024’s first overall pick in the NFL Draft, Bryce Young.

Head-to-head, New Orleans has a 32-28 advantage. The Saints won their earlier 2024 matchup in New Orleans by a score of 47-10.

New Orleans Hopes Trip to Carolina Breaks Skid

The Saints exploded out of the gate, blowing out Carolina and Dallas in the first two games of the season and scoring 47 and 44 points, respectively. They followed that up by losing their next six games.

It’s easy to point to the Carr injury as a proximate cause for their stumble, but they lost three straight with him under center before he got hurt. Rookie Spencer Rattler struggled at QB in Carr’s absence.

Carr’s return will allow the Saints’ offense to run more efficiently. Also, receiver Chris Olave is expected to play after missing time with a concussion. Star running back Alvin Kamara was limited in practice with a hand injury, but he too is expected to play.

New Orleans’ defense is among the poorest in the league, but Carolina’s offense might be worse.

Carolina Sticks With Bryce Young at QB

Young started in Carolina’s Week 8 loss to Denver. This was not due to his or Andy Dalton’s performance in practice, but because Dalton was in an auto accident in the week leading up to the game.

He played reasonably well going 24 for 37 with 224 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. There have been rumblings that he could be on the trade block with the Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline looming.

It’s hard to dress up the disaster that is the Panthers. To highlight how (and partially why) they have reached these depths, one only needs to look at the conduct of owner David Tepper who, during their 28-14 loss, tried to have two Broncos fans ejected from Carolina’s home field Bank of America Stadium.

At this point, other struggling teams wondering what they will do if they secure the worst record in the NFL and get the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft might temper their expectations given Carolina’s play and upcoming schedule.

Saints vs Panthers Prediction: New Orleans Will Win by More Than 7

Neither team is good, but the Panthers are historically terrible.

The Saints will win the game by more than 7.
