San Francisco Just Looking for a Dry Field

San Francisco is 0-1 after a 19-10 loss in Chicago last week, but you can basically throw everything from that game out the window as there was over 4″ of rain that fell on Soldier Field Sunday and movement was nearly impossible. Regardless of the weather, there are still some major concerns with QB Trey Lance heading into the Seahawks 49ers week 2 matchup.

Lance was just 13/28 for 164 yards and an INT last week and there were plenty of TV shots of backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo last week. Lance will have to deal with the outside pressure but also without pro bowl TE George Kittle who looks like he’ll miss his second straight game with a groin injury. San Francisco did run for 176 yards last week even with RB Elijah Mitchell, so that could be an area to exploit against a Seahawks team that gave up over 5 ypc to the Broncos in week one.

It was supposed to be Seattle that had the QB issues coming into this game after they traded Russell Wilson to Denver in the offseason. To his credit, Geno Smith stepped up as the starter, going 23/28 with 195 yards and 2 TDs to lead the Seahawks to a 17-16 victory over Wilson and the Broncos on Monday night.

Smith played mistake-free football on Monday night, something he’ll try to repeat on Sunday while possibly getting DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett more involved in the offense. Seattle’s bigger concern however is on defense where S Jamal Adams is out for the year with a quad injury suffered on MNF.

Seahawks 49ers Week 2 Prediction

It’s a short week for Seattle but to be double digit underdogs at Pinnacle seems high. Smith didn’t make mistakes in the opener and the Seahawks picked up the win even without Metcalf and Lockett getting involved. Rookie Kenneth Walker III is expected to make his debut at RB for the Seahawks after running for 1,600+ yards at Michigan State last year and there are still many questions surrounding Lance for SF.
