Sheffield United make their return to the Premier League this weekend, as they kick off their campaign at Bramall Lane against Crystal Palace. The newly promoted side will be looking to get off to a dream start, but it could be a testing opening day assignment.

Before Betting On Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace

It has been a testing summer for Sheffield United, as they have lost two of their most influential players during the summer transfer window. However, their chances this weekend are improved based on the fact that they have lost just once in their previous five home matches against Palace. But, that defeat was suffered in their previous clash in May 2021.

Both teams to score may be an angle to avoid this weekend, as the winning team has kept a clean sheet in all six previous matches between the sides in the Premier League. The side that has won the first match between the sides have also gone on to complete the double in each of the previous three campaigns in which both were in the Premier League.

Sheffield United boasted an excellent home record between December 2006 and July 2020, as they won ten consecutive matches against sides based in London. However, following lockdown measures, they have since failed to win each of their last six, which includes five defeats on the bounce at the end of the 2020-21 season.

The Blades also have a poor opening day record in the last nine seasons, as they have landed just one victory. Over that period, they have suffered seven defeats, which includes losses in each of their last three. Meanwhile, Palace have lost on the opening day in each of the previous two seasons, but they have never kicked off a top-flight campaign with three straight defeats in their history.

This looks a tricky game to call on the opening weekend. However, we are worried for the Blades following their transfer business this summer, and they could be given a rude awakening in front of their home fans on Saturday. Therefore, we will be siding with the Eagles to land victory.
