Ligue 1 Soccer Picks

Marseille vs. Auxerre

Marseille enjoyed an excellent start to the season and bounced back well after losing 3-0 against PSG. Auxerre will be the visitors on Friday, and their form has been eye-catching after winning two of their last three.

However, the prospect of a home victory looks like the most likely outcome this weekend. Marseille come into this showdown after winning their last three against Auxerre, netting at least twice in each of those encounters.

Strasbourg vs. Monaco

Monaco’s strong start to the season has diminished in recent weeks after suffering defeats in each of their last two. The visitors are the lowest scoring side in the top six positions, and are winless in their last three.

Strasbourg have also found winning difficult in recent weeks, losing two of their last three. However, Monaco have won each of their last four against Strasbourg, and that could be a trend worth following on Saturday.

Lens vs. Nantes

Both Lens and Nantes will be looking for a return to form this weekend after losing each of their last two matches. Nantes’ winless run stretches back further, as they have taken just two points from their last five.

Lens remain on the cusp of the European places, and could be the main angle for betting purposes if they are able to bounce back to form following a pair of disappointing results.

Angers vs. PSG

PSG have easily moved six points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 standings after winning four of their last five. Luis Enrique’s side are the highest scorers in France at present, and they will be heavily expected to get the job done against Angers on Saturday.

The hosts have won each of their last two, but there are still defensive issues to address, meaning this will be no easy feat against such a potent forward line.

Nice vs. Lille

Two direct rivals for a European spot collide on Sunday, with Lille and Nice both sporting unbeaten records across their last five. Lille have won three matches over that period, compared to two wins recorded by Nice.

Little separates the sides based on previous meetings, with each of the last two ending in draws. However, the narrow preference is for the hosts, who have lost just once in their last six league meetings against their rivals.

Le Havre vs. Reims

Reims will see this weekend as a perfect opportunity to bounce back to winning ways after losing their last three.

Prior to the first of those defeats, the French side had won four of their opening seven matches. Le Havre eased their position slightly last weekend with a third win of the season, ending a four-game losing sequence. However, if at their best, Reims looks to be the obvious play.

Rennes vs. Toulouse

Rennes begin life after Julien Stephan this weekend with a home match against Toulouse. The hosts have dropped to 13th after losing three of their last five. Confidence should be high among the visitors after winning each of their last two, and avoiding defeat in their previous three.

A change in management may not alter the home side’s fortunes immediately, meaning that the preference is for the in-form away side.

Montpellier vs. Brest

Brest have been all-conquering in the Champions League so far this term, but their domestic form has been inconsistent. They have picked up the pace in recent weeks after winning two of their last four.

Montpellier continues to struggle in the top flight after losing eight of their opening ten, including each of their last five. Therefore, the visitors will be preferred to get back on track domestically.

Lyon vs. St. Etienne

The final match of the weekend will see Lyon bid to stretch their unbeaten run in Ligue 1. The home side have avoided defeat in their last five, picking up eleven points over the sequence. However, they come into this showdown after playing out draws in their last two.

St. Etienne have won two of their last four, and a second straight victory could move them up to 12th this weekend. But, the home win looks challenging to overlook, as Lyon have won four of the last five matches between the sides, keeping clean sheets on three occasions.
