We may only be four games into the 2024-25 Premier League season, but this weekend’s showdown between Southampton and Ipswich already looks set to be a pivotal clash at the bottom of the standings.

Neither of the newly promoted sides have claimed a victory in the top-flight this term, with Ipswich sitting higher than their rivals after picking up draws in their last two.

Huge confidence would have been gained by the Tractor Boys following their most recent outing. Kieran McKenna’s side defended excellently to hold Brighton to a goalless draw.

However, the match marked the first time since March 2020 that Ipswich failed to register a single shot on target in the opening 45 minutes.

The pressure is already mounting on Russell Martin. Southampton have looked out-classed in their opening four matches this term, and Saturday could signal the end of his reign should the visitors claim maximum points.

The Saints squandered excellent opportunities in their recent home match against Man United, before succumbing to a 3-0 loss against the Red Devils.

This weekend’s showdown is the first Premier League meeting between the sides since Southampton landed a 3-1 away victory in March 2002.

Southampton vs. Ipswich Prediction

Southampton’s defensive issues this term have been visible to all. Therefore, it could be worthwhile to side with Ipswich landing a first win back in the Premier League.
