Just two nations remain in the hunt for success at the Women’s World Cup. Spain and England locked horns at the EUROs last summer, with the latter edging through in dramatic fashion. However, Spain will be looking to right that wrong when they clash on Sunday.
Before Betting On Spain vs England
It has been a thrilling edition of the 2023 Women’s World Cup across Australia and New Zealand, and the final two nations left standing will battle in the showpiece event at Stadium Australia this weekend. Both nations have impressed to reach this stage of the tournament, but the dreams of one team will come shattering back down to earth this weekend.
Spain was our pre-tournament pick to win the tournament, and they have shown excellent character to deal with everything thrown at them, both on and off the field. The biggest example of that was in their semi-final clash against Sweden, as the match appeared to be heading toward extra time after the Swedes equalized late in the match. However, Spain held their nerve, and scored a dramatic winner in the 89th minute.
This will be Spain’s first appearance in the Women’s World Cup final. That is a staggering achievement based on the fact that they had won just once in seven previous matches at the competition before this year. However, they have now won all but one of the matches that they have played this year, and they likely remain the team to beat.
England’s participation in the final is little surprise, as they were the clear second favorites to win the tournament before a ball was kicked. The Lionesses have faced few issues in reaching this stage, and they were excellent in the semi-final on Wednesday against Australia.
The 3-1 win saw them become the second nation to beat the hosts in the semi-finals, following Germany’s 2003 win over the United States. England have been excellent at the competition after scoring the first goal, and they are now unbeaten in their last 19 after breaking the deadlock. Over that period, they have won each of their last 13.
