There are few more prestigious individual honors in the world of British sport than being crowned Sports Personality of the Year. This year’s award will be handed out at the end of 2024, and the EUROs could have a big impact on the likely winner.

Before Betting On Sports Personality of the Year

BBC Sports Personality of the Year has been handed out annually since 1954, with the finest sportsperson in the United Kingdom being honoured. It was first handed out in December 1954, with athletics star Christopher Chataway being the inaugural winner. All sports have been honored throughout history, with athletics seeing the most winners with 18. Formula One has produced eight victors, while seven footballers have been handed the honor.

Soccer has dominated the award in recent editions, with England women stars Mary Earps and Beth Mead winning each of the last two. Female athletes have also had a stranglehold on the accolade since 2021, with Emma Raducanu landing victory following success at the US Open.

However, the betting would indicate that a male winner of the award is extremely likely this year. The EUROs could have a big role to play, with Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham ranking inside the top three in the betting. The latter could stand leading claims after guiding Real Madrid to Champions League glory.

However, the key figure to take on the soccer stars is darts sensation Luke Littler. The teenager reached the final at the World Championships earlier this year, before winning the Premier League on his debut appearance. Olympic star could be among the notable market movers as the year progresses, with Katarina Johnson-Thompson one to keep an eye on as he targets Heptathlon gold in Paris.
