There will be exciting boxing action in Miami, Florida in late June, as Teofimo Lopez makes his second defense of the WBO light welterweight title. Lopez has been one of the most dominant stars in the ring throughout his professional career, winning 20 of his 21 bouts. His only defeat was a shock split decision loss against George Kambosos Jr in New York in 2021, which saw him lose the IBF, WBA, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles.
Since that defeat, he has stepped into the light welterweight division with huge success. He beat Pedro Camp via TKO in his first fight in the division, before setting up a world title showdown following a success over Sandor Martin.
Lopez became a two-weight world champion in June 2023 after beating Josh Taylor via unanimous decision, and he made a successful first title defense in February when beating Jamaine Ortiz.
Steve Claggett will be the massive underdog for this world title showdown, despite having won 38 of his professional bouts. But, the Canadian has look anything other than unbeaten during his career, having suffered seven defeats and fighting out two draws.
The 34-year-old at least comes into the bout after an excellent stoppage success against Marcos Gonzalez Barraza on his previous outing in January.
