The Premier League are still planning on finishing the 2019-20 campaign, but play isn’t likely to resume until at least June. Clubs could return back to training next month in preparation for the season resuming, but could these be the final couple of months that some players will be spending at their respective clubs. There have been rumours that two clubs are set to have a massive overhaul of their squad over the summer months, with some notable names likely to be leaving their clubs.
Many of the biggest transfers over the summer will likely centre around the long-term future of Jadon Sancho, Edinson Cavani and Philippe Coutinho. But, West Ham United and Everton are rumoured to be planning big changes of their own. Both clubs have taken gambles over the last couple of seasons, but it would appear that these have not paid off.
Carlo Ancelotti Looking To Leave His Mark
Carlo Ancelotti arrived at Goodison Park in the winter, and Everton’s fortunes have quickly turned around. The Toffees are no longer looking over their shoulders fearing the drop. Instead, they are now looking up the table and plotting their route back into Europe next season with a big summer spend. However, in order for Ancelotti to bring in players, he will first need to get some of them off the wage bill.
Moise Kean has irritated all Everton fans during this lockdown period as he has broke the government regulations. The Italian hasn’t been able to settle in England since making the move from Juventus, and the club could see this summer as the ideal opportunity to get him off the wage bill. Gylfi Sigurdsson is another player that doesn’t seem to fit the style that Ancelotti wants. The manager’s relationship with some of the most exciting players in Europe has already seen that Toffees linked with moves for Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez.
West Ham United To Have Summer Overhaul
West Ham United promised so much at the beginning of the season with highly-rated players such as Sebastian Haller and Pablo Fornals brought in. However, the Hammers have endured another difficult season and that saw Manuel Pellegrini fired from the club before the Christmas period. The manager was quickly replaced by David Moyes, with the Scot having past experience of dragging West Ham out of trouble. When he did it previously, he was immediately released from his contract. However, this summer he could be given the freedom to build his own squad.
Reports in the press have already linked Declan Rice with a move away, with many of the leading clubs in the division eyeing the £70-million rated star. Haller could also be moved on, while Angola Ogbonna, Pablo Zabaleta and Jack Wilshere may also be sweating for their futures. Moyes could have the final say in the signings that the club make this summer, which will mean a clear change in how the Hammers will be setting up for games in the 2020-21 season. However, whether they will be playing in the Premier League or Championship is still to be decided.
