Fields Needs a Big Game

QB Justin Fields is finding out you don’t get a lot of time – or opportunities – to prove you are the main quarterback in Chicago. The 1-1 Bears beat San Francisco 19-10 in week one, but after a 27-10 loss in Green Bay last Sunday night fans are starting to wonder if indeed Fields is the QB of the future – even though Chicago only threw the ball 11 times in that game.

Lovie Smith would love to add to the Bears’ misery since he was fired as Chicago head coach in 2012 even after a 10-6 season. Smith has the Texans 0-1-1 to start the season, coming off a close 16-9 loss in Denver last week.

The Bears Texans week 3 matchup has the lowest total of the slate at many offshore sportsbooks. Chicago and Houston are 26th in the NFL in scoring this season (14.5 ppg) and the Bears have the worst passing offense in the league at just 76.5 ypg. Fields, David Montgomery, and the rest of the Chicago offense better get something going against Houston’s #31 ranked defense (433.5 ypg) or they’ll get booed off Soldier Field by their own fans.

Texans Bears Week 3 Prediction

It’s going to be costly to lay the extra 1/2 point with Chicago from -2.5 to -3 but this game could also easily come down to a field goal in a matchup of two extremely mediocre (if not outright bad) offenses. Houston going on the road for a second straight week after a trip to Denver isn’t ideal, but that doesn’t mean they still can’t beat a Chicago team with a poor offensive line and who may be without start LB Roquan Smith (hip). The ‘under’ would still be the best play here.
