Teams Heading In Different Directions
Houston is an NFL dark horse for a deep playoff run.
The Jets are in familiar disarray and it’s getting worse. The latest is that they staged a competition to determine who would be their placekicker after Greg Zuerlein missed an extra point and a field goal in their catastrophic 25-22 loss in New England.
They held the competition, signed two kickers to the practice squad (a relatively unheard-of maneuver) then placed Zuerlein on injured reserve.
In addition, the Jets made history seemingly only the Jets could make when they lost to the 1-6 Patriots. The NFL is more than a century old and this never happened.
Texans Riding High but Dealing with a Major Injury Loss
Houston’s hopes took a significant hit when it was announced that star wide receiver Stefon Diggs tore his ACL and was placed on injured reserve, out for the season.
This is a massive loss. Quarterback C.J. Stroud will need to rely more on Tank Dell, Nico Collins, and Dalton Schultz with second-year receiver Xavier Hutchinson needing to step up. Houston’s passing attack is seventh in the NFL, largely due to Diggs.
Defensively, they are vulnerable, particularly to the pass. Expect Aaron Rodgers to come out firing.
The Hourglass Is Emptying for the Jets
After the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh, the team responded by losing their first three games under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich including the unfathomable loss in New England.
Their remaining schedule is unfavorable. Regardless of the inherent dysfunction, New York has too much talent to be this bad.
Davante Adams has not moved the needle much since he was acquired from Las Vegas. The Jets have had plenty of last stands in their history, but this is likely the last chance for Rodgers to make his tenure anything more than a misguided disaster for all involved.
Texans vs Jets Prediction: Houston Should Trample the Jets
Weekly, the Jets’ talent explodes off the page and computer screens. And, like it was preordained, they find innovative ways to embarrass themselves on and off the field. Why should this Thursday Night Football matchup be any different?
Our Texans vs Jets prediction is for Houston to win on the road.
