The fourth golf major of the season takes place this weekend, as St Andrews hosts The Open Championship. It is the 150th time that the major has been held, and it is the first time that the major has been held at St Andrews since 2015 when Zach Johnson won a playoff against Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen.

Before Betting On The Open Championship 2022

It looks set to be an exciting weekend for golf fans, as there is set to be an excellent field competing for the top prize at St Andrews. Rory McIlroy heads the betting, as he looks for a first major victory since his win at The Open back in 2014. He has been excellent in the previous majors this season, as he finished tenth or better at The Masters, PGA Championship and U.S. Open.

Collin Morikawa won this major 12 months ago, as he held off Jordan Spieth to win by two strokes. However, the American hasn’t been as reliable this season, and his odds reflect that. Xander Schauffele warmed up for the tournament with an excellent success in the Scottish Open last weekend, and will likely go off as the second favorite for the major this weekend.

Shane Lowry won the Open back in 2019, as he won by six shots. He could be excellently placed once again this weekend to mount a serious challenge. Tiger Woods will also be competing at St Andrews this weekend, as he looks for a fourth major win, and a third success at the course.

It looks set to be an exciting 150th Open this weekend. However, the Louis Oosthuizen angle is one that I like. He won 2010 edition of the major at St Andrews by seven shots, and was a very close second back in 2015. At +5000 with MyBookie, he has at least an excellent each-way chance this weekend.
