The final golf major of the season takes place at Royal Liverpool, as the world’s best collide in England at The Open. The event was won by Cameron Smith in 2022, as the Australian landed a maiden major victory by a record par score. But, Smith will encounter a number of other solid contenders when it comes to retaining the honor that he won at St Andrews.

Before Betting On The Open

One of the most exciting golf events of the season will be staged this coming weekend, as the 2023 Open takes place at Royal Liverpool. It will be the first time that the major has been held at the course since 2014, with Rory McIlroy winning the event for the first time nine years ago. That success remains his last major victory, but he comes into the event this weekend in excellent recent form.

The Northern Irishman bounced back to winning ways last weekend, as he landed a first victory at the Scottish Open. It was a dramatic finish to the event, with McIlroy needing to birdie the final two holes to hold off Robert MacIntyre by a shot. That solid warm-up means he is a standout contender this weekend.

A number of other previous winners come into the event with excellent chances this weekend, including Shane Lowry, who won the event in 2019. Tommy Fleetwood enjoyed a solid weekend at the Scottish Open, and he could be set to go one better after finishing that major in second. Colin Morikawa hasn’t enjoyed the easiest of years, but the 2021 champion could be primed for a big weekend back on the links course.

Jordan Spieth is another player that often performs well on the links course, and he previously landed victory at The Open in 2017. The American failed to make the cut at the Scottish Open last weekend, but if he is back to his best, then he could be a major player this weekend.
