Tony Ferguson vs. Paddy Pimblett is the fight that will kick off the main card action of UFC 296 on Saturday, December 16, 2023. El Cucuy is on a six-fight losing skid and he’s taking on Paddy the Baddy who’s looking to prove his doubters wrong.

With Ian Machado Garry officially out of the UFC 296 fight card, Paddy Pimblett is arguably the most disliked fighter who’s fighting in Vegas this coming Saturday.

Some fans hate Paddy for his behavior outside the Octagon; others don’t like him for his most recent fight which they believe he lost. It happened a year ago against Jared Gordon where we saw the Liverpool-based fighter win by unanimous decision.

Gordon recorded three takedowns in that fight, Pimblett made no TDs. Gordon recorded 60 significant strikes, Pimblett made 63.

Knowing all this, it’s clear why fans have been questioning his quality. But one should keep in mind that Paddy got himself injured early in that fight but kept fighting.

He showed that he’s a real warrior and he’s determined to show it once again. Even though Ferguson is one of his favorite fighters, Pimblett will have no compassion for his opponent in the Octagon.

The Englishman is coming to Vegas to finish his opponent, but maybe Ferguson can cause a surprise? Well, he’s on a horrible run with six straight losses, three of which saw him get finished.

Further, he’s turning 40 in a few months, and given that he’s got a history of both physical and mental issues, “El Cucuy” definitely doesn’t seem capable of fighting professionally for too long. But will Paddy the Baddy be the one to end his career?

When asked about his UFC 296 fight on JaackMaate’s Happy Hour, Paddy Pimblett made a prediction that he’s going to finish his opponent in the second round. It seems oddly specific, but we 100% agree with him.

In 2023, Ferguson is no match for Pimblett. The Englishman has what it takes to finish him, probably by submission. However, given that Ferguson is a UFC legend, the crowd at T-Mobile Arena will be on his side, which could give him enough energy to survive one round.

Pick: Paddy Pimblett by Submission in Round 2
