Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Preview
Chelsea On Strong Run
Thomas Tuchel’s side will be aiming to win the Premier League title this season, but they will be aware that they will need to maintain their form in what is set to be one of the closest Premier League title races in recent history. Chelsea are currently locked on 10 points, alongside Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton at the top of the standings. The Blues have won every game that they have played this season, except for the draw that they picked up against Liverpool. Chelsea’s last Premier League win came last weekend, as they beat Aston Villa 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Romelu Lukaku’s excellent scoring run continued with a brace in that win, while Mateo Kovacic also helped himself to a goal. Chelsea continued their strong start in the Champions League in midweek as they overcame Zenit St Petersburg to win 1-0, once again Lukaku was the difference maker in that game, scoring a fine header to get the three points on the board.
Spurs Looking For Response
Tottenham Hotspur’s excellent start to the new season came undone last weekend, as they were hammered on the road by Crystal Palace. That defeat ended their perfect 100% record, as the international break looked to do Spurs absolutely no favours. Tottenham were sluggish throughout that fixture, and were deservedly on the wrong side of a drubbing. There was no attacking threat throughout the game by Spurs, as they saw Japhet Tanganga sent off early in the second half.
Harry Kane looked a frustrated figure, as he failed to have a single shot on target in the 90 minutes. Spurs themselves only managed just one shot on target. All three goals that Tottenham conceded came in the final 15 minutes, and Nuno Espirito Santo will be aware that improvement will be needed this weekend, otherwise, it could be another big defeat against the in-form Chelsea.
Key Stats
Chelsea have recorded two straight wins on the road against Spurs, while Tottenham have conceded more goals against the Blues in the Premier League than any other side. Spurs have also been in poor form in London derbies, as they have lost four of their previous six. Meanwhile, Chelsea have won their last five London derbies played away from Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Pick
It’s unlikely that Spurs will play as badly as they did last weekend, but they will be up against it against a Chelsea side that are at the very top of their game at present. It’s hard to look past the away win, and Lukaku is likely to get himself on the scoresheet once again this weekend.
Pick: Lukaku to score and Chelsea to win.
