Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United Preview

Solskjaer Needs Big Result

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be counting his lucky stars that he is still in a job coming into this game in North London on Saturday. The pressure intensified on the Norwegian after one of the most embarrassing results in the club’s history last weekend against Liverpool. United were hammered 5-0 by their local rivals, and the Red Devils could have counted themselves lucky that they didn’t lose by more. United looked vulnerable defensively every time that the Reds came forward.

They have now conceded eleven in three games in all competitions, which is something that desperately needs to change if Solskjaer is to keep hold of his job. Reports have claimed that he could just have three games to save his job, with Antonio Conte reportedly being lined up for the job. However, United’s away record still isn’t a bad one, as their defeat on the road last time out against Leicester ended their 29-game unbeaten run.

Spurs Need Consistency

The pressure is also on Nuno Espirito Santo coming into this game. They have lacked any kind of consistency this season, as they have lost four games and have won five times. They have lost three times in their previous five, but last weekends defeat against West Ham United certainly would have been one that stung. Spurs offered nothing in the final third in that match, and rightfully ended up on the wrong side of a 1-0 defeat.

It was talisman Harry Kane that switched off to allow the Hammers to take the points, as he didn’t track the run made by Michail Antonio. The best way that they could attack this game is by taking the match to United, but their attacking record doesn’t show much evidence to suggest that’s the way that they will play. Tottenham have scored just nine times this season, which is the joint-fewest total in the top half of the Premier League.

Recent Meetings

Manchester United ended a terrible run away from home against Spurs, as they ended a six game winless run by failing to lose on their last three visits to North London. United have picked up two wins in those three fixtures. Spurs also have a bad record against the Red Devils, as they haven’t lost to any other side in the Premier League more frequently.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United Prediction

This is a hard game to call between two sides that haven’t showed anywhere near their best form this season. However, given the talk around Old Trafford and how distracting that could be coming into this game, we believe that a Spurs win could be the most likely result.
