Before Betting on Twins vs Padres July 29
The Minnesota Twins try to finish off July strong as they begin a weekend series with the San Diego Padres on Friday night. Minnesota is just 9-10 this month, but they’ve managed to keep a two game lead on Cleveland in the AL Central and will play 20 of 28 games at home in August.
The Padres may make some moves before Tuesday’s trade deadline but their biggest addition is going to be the return of Fernando Tatis, Jr. who is scheduled to be back with the club during the first week of August after recovering from a wrist injury. San Diego hasn’t had luck with trades this season as Taylor Rogers – acquired from the Twins in April – has blown 6 of his last 17 save opportunities.
The Padres are 9-13 this month, their first sub .500 month of the season. Blake Snell (1-5, 5.22 ERA) gets the ball trying to add to that win column in the Twins vs Padres matchup, and he’s pitched better than his numbers indicate giving up an ER or less in three of his last four starts.
Joe Ryan (6-3, 2.99 ERA) counters for the Twins in his last start of a very strong month. Ryan has a 2.05 ERA in four July starts and the Twins have won four of his last five overall.

The offshore odds show this as a pretty close matchup. There’s value on the first place Twins as Ryan has pitched well, but Minnesota is also 1-6 in their last 7 following an off day and have dropped five of their last six against teams with a winning record. Snell has had some real stinkers this year, but he’s looked better over the past month which gives the Padres the edge.
