Will Carlos Prates Justify His -750 Odds?

FighterOdds
Neil Magny+550
Carlos Prates-750

Carlos Prates’ odds for beating Neil Magny are -750, meaning that if he loses, it’s going to be the biggest betting upset in the UFC since -900 favorite Valentina Shevchenko lost to Alexa Grasso in March 2023.

So, are we in for a surprise in the UFC Fight Night 247 main event? We say no. Our prediction is that Carlos Prates will prolong his fantastic run to 11 wins in a row.

This guy is a fantastic striker who lands more than 5 significant strikes per minute and who’s got a win-to-knockout ratio of 75%. He won his last eight fights by KO/TKO, winning the Performance of the Night bonus for the last three. We’re pretty certain the same will happen again.

Cody Garbrandt or Miles Johns – Who’s Grinding Out a Win on November 9?

FighterOdds
Cody Garbrandt+130
Miles Johns-150

Cody Garbrandt is a former champ who’s 14-6 overall. He won the UFC Bantamweight title in 2016, but since then, he’s 3-6. In his most recent outing, he lost to Deiveson Figueiredo by submission in the second round.

“Figgy” completely ragdolled him in that fight, with Garbrandt landing just 13 strikes. Actually, this guy has been very inaccurate with his strikes, with his accuracy being just 40%. Sure, he’s always been more about power than precision, but hitting Miles Johns won’t be easy as this guy is famously great at defending.

Johns is 15-2-1 overall with 10 fights fought under the UFC banner. In only two of those, he got hit more than 50 times in total. Plus, in each of his last five, “Chapo” absorbed under 50 significant strikes.

Knowing this, we think he can outbox Garbrandt and get himself a win by decision in the end.

Gillian Robertson to Outgrapple Luana Pinheiro

FighterOdds
Gillian Robertson-375
Luana Pinheiro+310

Gillian Robertson is one of the best grapplers in women’s MMA. She’s 14-8 overall with 9 of her wins happening by submission. What’s interesting, however, is that she’s really improved her striking game recently.

For example, in her most recent fight, she landed 77 strikes against Michelle Waterson-Gomez while absorbing just 21. That was enough for her to get a win by decision. In the fight before that, we saw her beat Polyana Viana by a TKO.

Now, she’s fighting her third fight of 2024, and this time, we think she’ll win by submission. This is because both her and Luana Pinheiro prefer fighting on the floor – both land about 2.5 takedowns per fight on average.

But if the fight goes to the ground, we think that Robertson will utilize her BJJ skills and get herself another win.

We’ve got a useful piece of advice for you regarding UFC Fight Night betting. Favorites win most of the time in these sorts of event, so stick to those fighters with “minus-money” odds.

Last weekend, for example, at UFC Edmonton, we saw betting favorites win in 10 of the 13 fights. We suspect something similar might happen on November 9 as well.
