  • English clubs remain unbeaten after Matchday 3.
  • Man City favorites in Champions League betting odds.
  • Aston Villa not fancied despite being top.

Matchday 3 in this season’s Champions League saw English clubs complete another clean sweep.

Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Aston Villa remain unbeaten from their first three games.

After drawing 0-0 against Atalanta on the opening day but following it up with wins against PSG and Shakhtar Donetsk, Arsenal sit ninth on seven points. The other three English clubs occupy the top spots, though.

Pep Guardiola’s 2022-23 winners, Man City, who recently thrashed Sparta Prague 5-0, are placed third, followed by Liverpool, whose latest result saw them beat RB Leipzig 1-0.

It is Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, who stayed perfect with a 2-0 win over Bologna on Wednesday, that are making everyone take notice though. After winning all their first three matches, and not conceding a single goal, the Villains are top of the table with nine points and clear of Liverpool by goal difference.

Although Aston Villa are not the bookmakers’ favorite to lift the prestigious European trophy next summer, they make up a heavily-English dominated outright market.

With all four of England’s clubs inside the top 10 to win the 2024-25 Champions League, fans will feel optimistic that the highly-regarded European trophy will be returning to home soil following Real Madrid’s landmark final win last season.

Three Out of Four English Clubs Backed to Reach Final

Odds on teams to reach the Champions League final see some interesting price changes.

For example, sportsbooks expect Arsenal to go on a deep run in the competition but aren’t overly confident Mikel Arteta’s men have what it takes to go the distance.

Elsewhere, despite being the ninth favorite to lift the trophy, Aston Villa drop down to 10th favorite to reach the final. Not much confidence is being shown in Emery’s ability to lead the Midlands-based club to their second-ever European title.
