The third major on the golf schedule this season gets underway on Thursday, as the US Open takes place at Pinehurst Resort. It promises to be another competitive event, with Scottie Scheffler dominating the outright betting to win a second major of the season. But, which players could be standout picks to make the cut?
Before Betting On US Open To Make The Cut
The US Open gets underway in North Carolina on Thursday, with the opening two rounds of action forming the final field that will compete for the major prize. Over 150 players will start the major this week, but that field will be cut to 60 for the final two rounds of action across Saturday and Sunday. Wyndham Clark was the shock winner of the US Open in 2023, as he managed to hold off Rory McIlroy to win by a shot.
However, if he is to replicate that shock win this weekend, then he will need to do something that he hasn’t managed to achieved in a major so far in 2024. Clark is yet to make the cut in two major appearances. The top 60 players will progress for the final two rounds of the US Open this weekend, but the score required will be anyone’s guess before at least the start of the second day on Friday.
Last year’s event saw players having to achieve a score of two-under to secure their place in the final two rounds of action, with stars such as Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson both missing out on a place in the business end of the major.
As the betting will highlight, the players at the top of the outright market will be very short prices to make the cut, as it seems unlikely that both Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will exit the tournament before the final two rounds. Therefore, it could be an interesting market to make selections on some dark horse contenders.
US Open To Make The Cut Offshore Odds & Pick
Player | Odds |
---|---|
Collin Morikawa | -550 |
Viktor Hovland | -500 |
Bryson DeChambeau | -400 |
Ludvig Aberg | -400 |
Brooks Koepka | -400 |
Tommy Fleetwood | -300 |
Matt Fitzpatrick | -275 |
Justin Thomas | -275 |
A player that we could see representing value in this market this weekend is Phil Mickelson. The American famously finished second at Pinehurst back in 1999 after finishing a shot behind Payne Stewart, and he could be an interesting selection to make the cut this weekend.
