The World Cup officially gets underway on Sunday, as host nation Qatar takes on Ecuador. However, Group B doesn’t get underway until Monday. The United States are among the favourites to progress out of the group, and they will open their campaign at Al Rayyan Stadium against Wales in the late game.

Before Betting On USA vs Wales

The United States come into the World Cup with a point to prove. They are second favourites to progress out of Group B, but their recent form does certainly ask questions that they will need to answer. The USMNT has won just once in their previous five games, with that victory coming at home against Granada in the CONCACAF Nations League in June.

Since then, the United States has failed to win in their previous three international matches, which includes draws against lowly-ranked nations such as El Salvador and Saudi Arabia. The US were also beaten during that run of form against Japan in late September, which means that there is a certainly level of trepidation for fans coming into this World Cup opener.

Regardless of the result, it will be a memorable World Cup opener for Wales, as they return to the competition for the first time since 1958. Wales enjoyed a strong qualification campaign, as they won six of the ten games that they played, and they were beaten on just one occasion.

However, they needed to come through the playoff round to gain qualification, eventually beating Ukraine 1-0 in the final. Since then, they have gone five without a victory in international fixtures, which includes defeats against the Netherlands and Belgium.

Wales have never previously beaten the United States in the two previous meetings, with the most recent fixture ending in a 0-0 draw in 2020. However, we could see this being a famous night for the Welsh, as they open their campaign with a narrow victory against the United States.
