Usman Nurmagomedov and Alexandr Shabliy are probably the best two lightweights outside the UFC. Nurmagomedov is the Bellator champion who’s got 17 wins and one no contest in his portfolio.

The NC is from his most recent fight (vs. Brent Primus), which he originally won by unanimous decision, but which was later overturned after he tested positive for a banned substance. As the investigation revealed, he didn’t take it on purpose, which is why he was allowed to keep his title and continue fighting without a suspension.

As you’d expect from someone whose cousins are Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev, and who used to be trained by legendary coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, Usman is an expert wrestler/grappler, which is why it’s no surprise that 6 of his 17 wins happened by submission.  

In addition, he’s also a fantastic striker with 8 wins by knockout/technical knockout, which is also the favorite finish method of his next opponent. With a background in boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai, Alexandr Shabliy is one of the best strikers in Bellator with 50% of his career wins happening by KO/TKO. One of those is the TKO win against Brent Primus. Still, his arguably most impressive win was against Patricky Pitbull, whom he defeated by unanimous decision.
