America also boasts an excellent record in opening day matches, as they have won six of their last eight. That includes a record 13-0 win over Thailand in the opening match of the 2019 World Cup. This will be Vietnam’s first ever appearance at the World Cup, but they are expected to struggle. They have been brought back down to earth in recent warm up matches following defeats against Germany and New Zealand. Their most recent match saw them lose 9-0 against Spain.
