Before Betting On The Valero Texas Open

The Valero Texas Open forms the final event on the PGA Tour before the start of The Masters, meaning that the field will be looking to build momentum in Texas before the start of the historic event at Augusta next weekend. This event has been staged on the PGA Tour since 1922, when it was previously known as the Texas Open.

A total distance of 7,435 yards is covered by the field at TPC San Antonio, with the event being a par 72 competition. It could be potentially lucrative for the top performing players, with a purse of $9.2 million available for those involved. The par record is held by Mike Souchak, while Tommy Armour III holds the record for the best aggregate finish. Corey Conners is the reigning champion coming into the event.

The Canadian player could have excellent claims in this event this weekend. Conners has claimed victories in two of the previous four editions of the Valero Texas Open, claiming success by one shot from Sam Stevens in 2023. Based on his excellent course record, he is unlikely to be that far away.

Rory McIlroy will be hoping to end his ten-year major drought at Augusta next weekend, and he has played more frequently over the early months of the season to enhance his chances of victory. He is a deserving favorite in the betting this week, but there could be value in taking on the Northern Irishman.
