La Liga champions, Barcelona, will have a very challenging task on Sunday. Villarreal awaits Blaugrana at El Madrigal, aiming to take a scalp of their big rivals.

Before Betting on Villarreal vs. Barcelona

Villarreal has one defeat and one win in the first two La Liga rounds. The interesting thing is that they lost at home to Betis, 0-1, and then beat Mallorca on the road, 1-2. They were extremely good in both events, but let’s say that luck wasn’t on their side against Betis. Versus Mallorca, Quique Setien’s crew was superb and dully deserved to triumph.

Setien is in a nasty position because the vital players from last year have been sold to various big teams. Jackson is in Chelsea, Chukwueze is in Milan, and Pau Torres went to Aston Villa. The team profited nicely, but on the other side, they now have a completely different unit, which needs to click.

Barcelona’s La Liga performances have been utterly disappointing. After a goalless draw against Getafe on the road, they did defeat Cadiz 2-0, but after struggling and plenty of frustrations, scoring both goals in the second half. This team isn’t as fluid as many expected, and Ilkay Gundogan’s presence isn’t felt at all.

The head coach Xavi is suspended for the clash at Madrigal due to his behavior against Getafe. His team has problems in attack, while the defenses seem flawless for the moment. Xavi will need one more forward, as Robert Lewandowski seems to be without any help right now.

Villarreal has a new team and this isn’t the team from the previous year that was a heck of a challenge for any rival, not only in Spain but Europe. Barca will impose its slow-paced tempo here, and that would inevitably lead to low efficiency, meaning under 2.5 goals.
