Before Betting On West Brom vs Southampton

Two sides that have been aware of their likely finish in the playoff spots for a couple of months will be looking for a vital first leg advantage on Sunday. Southampton were among the favorites to achieve automatic promotion at the start of the season, but they have failed to maintain their consistency throughout the 2023-24 season.

The Saints at least ended the campaign on a high point after landing a success at Leeds United. That at least gives them hope of gaining promotion this term after ending their three-game losing run. But, there will be hope for the Baggies this weekend, as the Saints conceded more goals than any other side that finished in the top five places.

West Brom deserve credit for their consistency this term, as the Baggies sat fifth in the standings for five months before their defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in the penultimate round. However, they re-gained fifth on the final day after landing a comfortable home success against Preston.

One area that could be a concern for the Baggies at this stage is their attacking output. West Brom have scored just 70 goals this term, which is the fewest of the teams in the playoffs. But, they have maintained a fine defensive record throughout the campaign, and the fact that they have home field advantage for this first leg could be key.
