Chicago on a Vacation?

Chicago quit when they needed to play their best baseball of the season, losing 8 straight games from September 20th – 28th effectively ending any playoff hopes the team may have had. The South Siders are now officially eliminated from the postseason, so what kind of motivation can we expect from them in the White Sox vs Padres Friday matchup?

San Diego has over a 96% chance of making the playoffs as they are currently in the #2 wild card spot, but the Padres are not officially in just yet. Two teams trailing San Diego – Milwaukee and Philadelphia – have what should be very easy series’ this weekend against the Marlins and Nationals respectively so there is still plenty on the line for San Diego.

Chicago rookie Davis Martin will make his 8th start of the year on Friday night. He’s been somewhat solid with a 2.12 ERA this month, but that came against Detroit (twice) and Minnesota. San Diego has won four of their last five home games against a RH starter and are 8-3 in their last 11 overall as well as 17-5 in their last 22 Friday contests.

Yu Darvish (16-7, 3.05 ERA) makes what will likely be his last regular season start in the White Sox vs Padres Friday meeting. He’s looking to cap off a perfect 6-0 month, currently sitting with a 5-0, 1.36 ERA in September. With Darvish on a hot streak, it’s going to be hard for Chicago’s Jose Abreu to keep up his 3-9 with 2 HR pace against the Padres starter.

White Sox vs Padres Friday Summary

There’s one way to play this one – Padres on the run line with the best value being at Pinnacle. Chicago did break their 8-game losing streak on Wednesday, but against the Twins who were playing equally as miserable this month. The White Sox are using this trip as an end of the year getaway, and they won’t get anything against Darvish in this matchup.
