Chicago quit when they needed to play their best baseball of the season, losing 8 straight games from September 20th – 28th effectively ending any playoff hopes the team may have had. The South Siders are now officially eliminated from the postseason, so what kind of motivation can we expect from them in the White Sox vs Padres Friday matchup?
San Diego has over a 96% chance of making the playoffs as they are currently in the #2 wild card spot, but the Padres are not officially in just yet. Yu Darvish (16-7, 3.05 ERA) makes what will likely be his last regular season start in the White Sox vs Padres Friday meeting. He’s looking to cap off a perfect 6-0 month, currently sitting with a 5-0, 1.36 ERA in September. With Darvish on a hot streak, it’s going to be hard for Chicago’s Jose Abreu to keep up his 3-9 with 2 HR pace against the Padres starter.
