The second Grand Slam of the year is creeping into sight, with the Women’s French Open getting underway in Paris across the end of May and start of June. It is one of the most difficult Grand Slams on the calendar to win, with the event being the only competition of the four illustrious tournaments to be played on a clay surface.

The Women’s French Open has been a regular part of the tennis calendar since its introduction in 1897. It has been a Grand Slam event since 1925, and the 2023 edition will be the 55th time that it has been staged in the Open Era. Chris Evert is the most successful player in the history of the event, having won seven titles during her esteemed career.
A formidable player tops the betting for the event this year, as Iga Swiatek will be looking to continue her dominance on the clay. The Polish star has landed success in two of the previous three editions of the French Open, including 12 months ago when she beat Coco Gauff in straight sets.
Aryna Sabalenka finally got her hands on a first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, and she could become world number one if she is able to land success at the French Open. Elena Rybakina is easily the value angle for French Open betting this year, as she comes into the event in excellent form. She landed success at the Italian Open in late May, seeing off Swiatek in the quarterfinals. Rybakina has reached two Grand Slam finals in the past 12 months, and previously reached the quarterfinals at the French Open in 2021.

It will be a thrilling two weeks in Paris, as the best players on the WTA Tour lock horns. I’d be keen to take on Sabalenka this year, while Swiatek is certainly the outstanding contender to win in Paris. However, a chance will be taken on Rybakina to finally land a second Grand Slam title after coming close in Australia.
