Before Betting On World’s Most Liveable City
The award for the World’s Most Liveable City has been handed out annually since 2002, with the rankings now consisting of 172 different cities. This was previous based on 140 cities, but the number that has been surveyed has increased over recent years. Prior to 2011, Vancouver had been the dominant global city in the rankings, winning the accolade in every year between 2002 and 2010.
Vienna is the reigning champion, with the Austrian city finishing narrowly ahead of Copenhagen in the 2023 survey. Australian cities have regularly been challenging to overlook, with two different cities being ranked inside the top four in 2023. Melbourne finished third in the rating, with Sydney finishing in fourth.
Vienna could be a challenging city to overlook this year after topping the ratings in each of the last two years with an average rating of 98.4. Copenhagen has finished second in each of the last two years. A number of cities regularly finish inside the top ten, with Vancouver, Osaka, and Geneva all finishing in the top ten in each of the last two years.
Osaka has been a consistent city in terms of ratings, with the Japanese location being included in the top ten in each of the last four years. Meanwhile, Swiss city Zurich has also made the top ten in each of the last two years.
