The Cardinals have been playing better over the past month, beating that same CMU team 24-17 in week 8 and suffering two close losses to Bowling Green (24-21) and <a href=\"https:\/\/utrockets.com\/news\/2023\/10\/14\/football-toledo-bowls-over-ball-state-13-6.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first place Toledo (13-6)<\/a> in a game Ball State was a +17.5 point underdog. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Northern Illinois and Ball State play for the &#8220;Bronze Stalk Trophy&#8221; a symbol of both schools placement in the agriculturally rich Midwest.
