The Marlins are just 18-34 on the season, but if their pitching staff keeps throwing like they have recently this team could make a run in the next couple months. Miami has held opponents scoreless in five of their last nine games, including in Friday night’s 3-0 series opening win over the Diamondbacks. Arizona may have been a bit deflated after winning two of three at division rival Los Angeles, and they’ll try to get back on track on Saturday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arizona had no offense on Friday night against Marlins starter Braxton Garrett<\/strong>, who threw a complete game 4-hitter on just 95 pitches in only his third start of the year after beginning 2024 on the IL with a left shoulder impingement<\/a>. The D’Backs had plated 17 runs in their three game series against the Dodgers so Game 1 was definitely a disappointing showing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Arizona hopes for a much better showing (obviously) on Saturday against Marlins rookie Sixto Sanchez<\/strong>. The right-hander has potential as he didn’t allow a run two starts ago against Detroit, but he’s also given up 4+ runs in two of his last four starts and has only thrown more than 4.0 IP once this season. The good news for the Marlins is that they didn’t need any relievers in Game 1 after Garrett’s gem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
