Business picks up at the US Open this week, as the round of 16 stage gets underway at Flushing Meadows. American hopeful Jessica Pegula will be favored to reach the next round of the Grand Slam when she comes up against Diana Shnaider at Arthur Ashe Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jessica Pegula appears to be the leading American hope of a home winner at the US Open this year. She has been an excellent contender at Grand Slam events since the start of 2021, reaching six quarterfinals. However, this could be a golden opportunity for the American to reach a very first semi-final at a major. She at least looks good value to improve on her run to the quarterfinals at the US Open in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pegula has been in dominant form throughout the Grand Slam this year, and she is still yet to drop a set in three matches. She produced some of her best tennis in the previous round at the major after overcoming Spanish rival Jessica Maneiro in straight sets. Pegula won 89% of the points on her first serve in that clash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Diana Shnaider has already enjoyed a summer to remember this year after winning the doubles silver medal at the Olympics. Her form has been very strong throughout this season, and she currently sits in a career-high ranking of 20th<\/sup>. She is already on course to achieve her best ever finish at a Grand Slam, besting her run to the third round at Wimbledon earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Interestingly, this is the first time that the star has managed to gain qualification to the main draw at the US Open. Her form throughout the tournament this year has been very strong, as she is also yet to drop a set. She secured her spot in the round of 16 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sara Errani on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There have been some huge shocks at the US Open already this year, and we wouldn\u2019t be surprised to see another minor upset on Monday.
