The Cowboys Players Are Saving McCarthy’s Job<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While it has not yet been overtly stated, it is highly unlikely that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will make a coaching change from Mike McCarthy to an unknown commodity given how hard the team has played amid its catastrophic injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their Week 16 win over Tampa Bay exemplified the team combating adversity. They are getting by with backup quarterback Cooper Rush, a battered defense, and one of the NFL<\/a>‘s lowest-ranked rushing attacks. Yet they are 7-8 with an unlikely chance to finish above .500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their final two games are against playoff teams Philadelphia and Washington. But even having the chance to win eight or nine games is an accomplishment by itself considering how poorly they started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to being without starting quarterback Dak Prescott for almost two months, they are missing cornerback Trevon Diggs, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and now wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is out for the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dallas was embarrassed against Philly at home in Week 10, 34-6. They will do everything they can to try and prevent the Eagles from clinching the division against them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philly is Without Quarterback Jalen Hurts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is in the concussion protocol. Backup Kenny Pickett will get the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philly relies heavily on its run game, specifically Saquon Barkley. Barkley is trying to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season record for rushing yards. (For context, Dickerson did it during the 16-game season.) Still, just because the Eagles are 31st in passing yards per game is not a reflection on Hurts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Steelers saw enough of Pickett after drafting him in the first round of the 2022 draft and having him for two years to dump him for a third-round draft pick and two seventh-round picks. A.J. Brown is beaten up. Barkley has been used heavily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Eagles could easily run into trouble in this game if Pickett is not minimally functional. He went 14 for 24 against Washington after replacing Hurts, throwing one touchdown and one pick. The Cowboys are going to make him beat them and he might not be able to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s difficult to see Philadelphia outright losing this game, but with Pickett under center and Dallas wanting to ruin the Eagles’ season, it will be closer than anticipated.
