Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has been re-appointed as the manager of Spain<\/a>. The announcement comes just five months after the Spaniard stepped down as the manager due to personal reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enrique had relinquished\nhis role in June after his nine-year-old daughter was left fighting for her\nlife after being diagnosed with bone cancer. She passed away in August, and\nEnrique feels now would be the best time to return to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Spanish Football\nFederation president Luis Rubiales confirmed the announcement regarding the\nChampions League winner during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Announcement Regarding\nEnrique<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The statement was very\nshort, but to the point. He said: “Today we can confirm that Luis Enrique\nwill return to his position. We have acted sincerely. We have not deceived\nanyone. Everyone knew that if Luis Enrique wanted to come back, he had the doors\nopen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I’ve spoken to the\ncaptains and some players and explained everything to them. We have kept our\npromise.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also revealed that\nthe new contract would run until the end of the World Cup in 2022 in Qatar.\nEnrique will be hoping that he can bring success back to the country over the\ncoming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new coach previously\nmissed the three final games of his initial tenure due to the illness of his\ndaughter, with his long-term assistant Robert Moreno taking charge of these\ngames. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His assistant was named as\nhis successor, but it is unclear whether he will continue to work closely with\nEnrique ahead of the next cycle of European Championships and World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreno enjoyed an excellent tenure in charge of the team, as he won four of his six games at the helm. The most recent of those was the 5-0 success against Romania<\/a> which ensured Spain’s passage to the European Championships next summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreno walked out of the\nstadium on Monday with heightened emotions, with neither himself or his players\ntalking to any of the media. The 42-year-old has consistently stated that he\nwould step down as soon as Enrique was happy to return to the fold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it would seem that\nhe will now leave the role immediately, and it is unclear whether he will\nreturn to be the assistant for Enrique. Moreno was reportedly angry with the\nSpanish FA as they didn’t consult him over the announcement, and when he asked\nfollowing Friday’s game whether he will be in charge for the Euro’s, he wasn’t\ngiven a straight answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rubiales’s Response To\nMoreno Claims<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Rubiales said: “Robert\nMoreno told us he didn’t want to go on as soon as he found out we were\nevaluating Enrique’s return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are very happy\nwith Robert’s work, but the leader of this project is Luis Enrique. We’ve\nalways said it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So on Monday, we\nreceived a message from Robert telling us he wanted to agree to his departure.\nWe would have liked to have done it differently, but it wasn’t our fault.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
