During the last Winter Games, an exception was made so that \u2018Olympic Athlete from Russia\u2019 status was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2018\/feb\/23\/second-russian-athlete-tests-positive-for-doping-at-winter-olympics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">granted to 168 Russian participants<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, a similar arrangement may\nnow be completely off the table pending WADA\u2019s decision on the matter. President\n<strong>Sebastian Coe<\/strong> of the World Athletics Federation \u2013 IAAF \u2013 urged the\nmatter to be pursued fairly, but also added that renegade factions must not be\ntolerated at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"reformists-in-russia\">Reformists in Russia <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>RUSADA, the Russia regulator\ndealing with matters of suspected drug abuse, has also had its champion, Yuri Ganus,\nwho is also head of the organization, call for a clean-up so that Russian\nathletes may compete at international events once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Dmitry Shlyakhtin, head of the track and field federation in Russia <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/d728ac6f6e07494583f67bf3a3918711\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">handed in his resignation on Saturday<\/a>. Despite Russia\u2019s attempts to clean up its sports organizations, no convincing efforts have been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only have Russian athletes\ncheated once \u2013 they have done so repeatedly, posing a threat to the fairness of\nthe contest.
